Tiger Folded Steel Katana Sword Set

Strikingly beautiful and elegant in their simplicity. Each piece in the Tiger Sword group has a deeply lacquered black saya (scabbard), with inlaid brass bamboo leaves. The ray skin used on the tsuka (hilt) is of the highest quality, and the tsuka-ito (hilt wrap) on the Katana and Wakizashi and the sageo on all three pieces are woven from Japanese cotton.

The tsuba (hand guard) of the katana sword and wakizashi are of blackened iron, with a tiger inlaid in brass. The habaki (blade collar) is of one-piece brass construction. The fuchi (metal sleeve behing the hand guard), kashira (pommel cap), kojiri (scabbard cap) koiguchi (scabbard opening) and kurigata (notch for sageo) are all made from blackened bronzed iron, selectively detailed in gold. The sword blades of all three pieces are grooved on both sides, with a short kissaki (blade tip) on the katana sword and wakizashi.

If you want a live shinken for iaido or kendo sword this is the perfect piece. Paul Chen, the creator of these swords, has outdone himself, again. Taking the highest quality hi-tech powdered swedish steel available in the world, he has taken two different carbon density steels and forged them together (in traditional Japanese form) to form tens of thousands of layers. These swords are the equal, or better, of the originals they are patterned after. The aggressive hammon (water or clay mark on the edge of the blade) shows the intent of the blade. If you look closely you can also see the differentials between the many layers of the two types of steel used to produce an extremely tough, yet hard edged, blade. Elegant, formal, and incredible tough. A truly sword combat functional family piece.
