Dr. Moses Powell was born on January 13, 1941 in Norfolk, Virginia to Athenia and Moses Powell. He leaves to mourn his loss and celebrate his life: Gina Barnett, his life partner and his daughters Cheryl, Tina, Kirema and Siddeequah.
Dr.Powell, a 10th degree black belt, studied martial arts for over 50 years. He is honored in the Black Belt Hall of Fame and in the World Karate Hall of fame.
Dr. Powell was the first martial artist invited to demonstrate his skills before the United Nations.
He was the first Black man to instruct the Secret Service and the F.B. I. The Benin Empire of West Africa awarded him the International Benin Award in 1972 for his community work and efforts throughout the world.
Dr. Powell attributed much of his success to his teacher, the late Grand Professor Florendo Vistacion, founder of Vee-Jitsu Ryu.
Dr. Moses Powell is one of the true legends of the martial arts world. He founded Sanuces Ryu Jiu-Jitsu, a fighting style that combines his over 45 years of experience in various martial arts. Dr. Powell was the first martial artist invited to demonstrate martial arts at the United Nations and a featured martial arts demonstrator at the New York World's Fair.
Dr. Powell was one of the first African-American martial artists to teach the fighting arts to U.S. law enforcement agencies.
Dr. Powell was deeply committed to sharing his knowledge and principles to all. He helped ex-offenders by teaching them self-respect, self-control and honesty through the martial arts. To this day, Dr. Powell continues to work with disadvantaged youth and senior citizens around the country. Dr. Powell was featured in "Masters of the Martial Arts", "Warrior Within" and many other films. His Sanuces Ryu system is unparalleled in its combat effectiveness and brute simplicity. Dr. Powell was the consummate martial artist and Sanuces Ryu Jiu-Jitsuis the ultimate martial art! Dr. Powell was and will always be the teacher of teachers.

had (50yrs.) of Martial Arts experience. His search for "Realism" in the Martial Arts has taken him around the world, going into numerous training halls where he was constantly tested! Grand Master Dr. Powell achieved the rank ( 10th Degree "Red Belt"). When it comes to close quarter combat, He was what I call the "Truth"! Dr. Powell has also Mastered many different tactics with weaponry. ( Katana, Jo, Tanto, Arnis Sticks, Sai's, Yuwarra sticks, Nunchukus,). Grand Master Dr. Moses Powell sacrificed throughout his entire life in search of "Perfection" through the Martial Arts. Because of his diligence, God blessed Dr. Powell with the Knowledge and Wisdom to create "Sanuces Ryu Eye to Eye Jiu-Jitsu". Through Dr. Powell's spirit, Sanuces Ryu is based on ( SPIRITUALITY, SUREALITY, SIMPLICITY, and SURVIVAL)
